Today's spelling words are: Arsenal:n. where the military restores weapons, Anaconda:n. a large snake, Gangrene:n. an infection to the wound, Innovation:n. to do something new, Consistent: adj. an agreement with;not set apart from, Persistent:adj. refusing to give up or let go, Insistent: adj. firm in asserting a demand or an opinion;unyielding.
HOMEWORK:Math pg. 592 (2-28 evens), Speeches on Thursday!!!!!!!
MATH!!!: today in class we were learning about a different style in math!its easy!:)
       Ex:        y2 - 3y - 4 / y + 5 * y + 5 / y2 + 4   okay so you want to get the longer y2 equation reduced so we can work out the problem so.....
(y - 4)(y + 1) y+5 /,aka the slant means over, y + 5 (y + 2)(y - 2) so you then cross out what is the same.So you cross the 'y + 5' and that it, because that is the only thing they have in common. So your answer is......
                                                     (y-4)(y+1) / (y+2)(y-2)    5 points extra credit?
And that is how you figure out the equation.
Reminder: Math Game extra credit is due on 5/20/11! In 4 days!!!!!

Last School Day Before Catalina - 5/6/11

Yea! Catalina is this Monday.

It is very important to arrive at 7-11 at 3:30 Monday morning so that you guys can get to Catalina on time. Deb is not waiting for anyone. Make sure everything is packed. There will be no purchasing of any energy drinks  at 7-11 (unless you really really really want to be throwing up on the ship). Pack a breakfast Sunday night, 7-11 doesn't have any decent breakfast. Get the most sleep the night before, you WILL need it. Any medication should also be taken in the morning as it takes time to kick in. unless you are like lacey and should only take it 2 hours before because it is prescribed...which no one is...except lacey and mickayla...but no body else..........and ashley...NO ONE ELSE!!! Take money so you can buy any souvenir and you will be stopping to get a bite to eat on the way back so only you know how much you need. Pack everything in one bag if possible...including your pillow. Don't forget your sleeping bag and/or blanket.

THERE WILL BE SCHOOL ON THURSDAY
All of you are expected to come to school the next day.

Catalina is this Monday so have fun everyone.

-Noe

We'll miss you Noe. See you Thursday.   Deb

Graduation cut-off date

You will be told by June 3 whether or not you will be graduating. Most of you should be able to figure it out before that time. You could always ASK. Deb

Last Day of CST Testing! - 5/5/11

Today was the last day of the testing as we finished the science portion of our CST's
It was quick yet a bit hard. However, some of it seemed to be just math.

Only three days left till Catalina!! Dont forget to get your money to Deb!!
Oh, and your insurance papers!! (breo)

Tomorrow make sure to turn in the Spelling Worksheet. Don't forget to turn in the permission slip for the movie Glory as well. The A.R test for Bull Run is due before the end of the day tomorrow.

We also have a couple of extra credit projects:

Math (Due May 20)
For this one you must develop your own math game. You can not use an already made game and make it a math game. It is best to start from scratch. It doesn't need to have a board but you must be able to present it so the class can play the game. It's best if you play the game yourself to avoid creating new rules when asked during class. Must be prepared. May have 1 partner.

Reading (Due May 27)
Here you have to make a book jacket. Most of you have seen it, Perfect Storm had a book cover. On the back include a short synopsis or quick summary of the book. You CAN'T copy what is there. All of it has to be made up yourself. Inside the jacket, it usually includes something about the author and a review of the book which again...made yourself
No Partner (Books usually have a summary in the back...dont copy that is what I meant

Science (Due May 30)
This is a bit harder because here you have to make a timer that measures 30 seconds exactly (Deb says it is okay to be off 2 seconds..or 4. Anywhere between 28-32 sec. is okay) You just have to make somerthing and have it end at 30 seconds. For instance make something move and stop after 30 sec. A sound or some kind of bell could be used to let us know it is done. It shouldn't be too hard, hopefully I explained it enough to understand atleast. You can have a partner.

Reading Project (Due June 2nd)
You must have already read 3 books by the same author. Series book like Harry Potter or Twilight aren't acceptable. Books must also be within reading level range (No Dr.Seuss) Compare and Contrast the characters, settings, plot, theme, etc. A BRIEF biography of the author must also be included. No visual is needed. No Partner!

Again the Catalina trip will be this monday. Have your money turned in, take some money if you wish to buy something extra.

-Noe

Today is May 4th - Third day of the CST's Testing

So since i'm not going to Catalina this year, I was chosen to type this blog out. Not bad so far...

Anyways, today we finished the English, Language Arts portion of the CST which wasn't so hard. Tomorrow we should be doing Science.

The homework for today is the following:
Spelling Worksheet - Due Fri.
Norman Rockwell picture essay - Due Thurs.
GLORY Permission Slip - Due Fri.
Bull Run A.R. Test - Due Fri.

Today the Bull Run page was due today so hope that you didn't forget to turn it in.

Spelling Words:
blasphemy -N-
psalm -N-
chaplain -N-
Lilliputian -Adj- NOT A NOUN
feign -V-
leisure -N-
tourniquet -N-

* On a side note...i'm listening to our class sing and since i dont have to be there and sing with them, i have to say that they dont sound half bad.

** People were randomly selected and invited to go watch Thor this friday and for those who did...don't forget to ask permission. Very important!

*** As I go to sit down, Deb reminded us that you must remember to bring the money for Catalina, she said something about not wanting to be there and doing something. Im guessing not wanting to be short of money. It was a while back..i forgot

I've covered quite enough already...I say this is good.

REMEMBER!!!!!YOU CANT TIMES THE RADICAL SIGN!!!!!!!!!

Imagine you are a travel agent trying to convince people to visit the planet you have chosen. Based on gravity, temperature, surface conditions, etc., what kinds of activities are available for a tourist? What are things the tourist should watch out for? homework: Math pg. 429 (1-4all) and (10-20 evens)
PLEASE MEMORIZE PARTS FOR THE PLAY!!!!

Today we learned Factoring Polynomials; how if two of the whole numbers can be reduced then reduce them. Then ,if you can, the other whole numbers should be reduced.

   EX.         6xy + 24x3y3 + 15 +60 x2y2
FIRST SINCE THE FIRST TWO HAVE SIX, X, AND Y  IN COMMON YOU DIVIDE IT.
             6xy(1 + 4x2y2)
THEN THE LAST TWO HAVE 15 IN COMMON SO YOU DIVIDE IT.
15(1+4x2y2)  -since 15 can't divide the variables you put them down with the original/new owner.
BUT THEN YOU SEE IN THE PARENTHESIS THEY ARE ALL THE SAME YOU CHANGE IT. SO YOU GET.....
        (6xy+15)(1+4x2y2) -WOULD BE YOUR ANSWER!!!!:)
                                                                                     VALERIE SANCHEZ
Note: In this example the larger numbers are constants and the smaller digits are exponents.

New Semester - New Start

I am going to try something new in my class starting tomorrow. I will post a daily blog about assignments, upcoming events, and (to use a technical term) other stuff. Here's the hook - I will not be doing many of these blogs, my students will.
As we learn more about the site and what features are available we can personalize our blog and make it uniquely ours. So, here goes........  Deb
